Stand-Up: Fundamentals

Ever wanted to know what it takes to crack up a crowd?

Across this eight week beginner course you’ll be equipped with the tools to write and perform stand-up comedy. We will experiment with styles and approaches to crafting and delivering jokes including observational comedy, storytelling, clowning, physical comedy, crowdwork and more.

The aim of this course is to help demystify the art of stand-up and to give you a safe space to experiment. By the end of the course you will be on your way to developing your unique stage persona.

Meet your teacher

Instructor Profile

Marcel Blanch-de Wilt

Marcel is a stand-up, comedian, improviser, writer, and director. He has won awards for his work on-stage and behind-the-scenes. He has performed in every capital city in Australia as well as NZ, USA, and the UK.

Beginning in independent theatre, Marcel wrote and directed a series of plays for the Adelaide Fringe between 2008 - 2011 before moving into stand-up comedy. He now boasts seven solo festival shows that have toured to all the major festivals around Australia.

Marcel performs alongside his wife in their critically acclaimed improv duo, The Newlyweds. He has performed and run workshops at the Auckland, NZ, and Brisbane Improv Festivals.

Marcel has a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts in Drama / English. He has run classes for ages 5 - 85, always with the aim to create an inclusive and incredibly fun classroom environment.

Marcel is an in-demand director and has built several shows with a heap of talented folks including Lizzy Hoo, Steph Broadbridge, and Eleanor Stankiewicz
