Rotating, limited-edition 8-week courses designed to help improvisers broaden their range and expand their toolkit

After last year’s successful introduction of Rep City courses, we’re excited to launch a brand new series of workshops within The Improv Conspiracy’s Development Track: Development Electives.

Development Electives are rotating, limited-edition 8-week courses designed to help improvisers broaden their range, expand their toolkit, and explore specialised areas of improv that don’t neatly fit inside our core curriculum.

These are the kinds of side quests that many experienced improvisers pick up over years of training — skills, lenses, and performance styles that can completely change the way you approach scenes, characters, and live performance.

Development Electives are open to anyone who has passed our Starter Track, whether you’ve just begun your Development Track journey, you’re a long-time Rep City regular, or you’re already participating in Performance Track classes.

Whereas Rep City focuses on strengthening core improv fundamentals, Development Electives focus on versatility — introducing new tools, specialised approaches, and creative perspectives that can enrich every part of your improv game.

Unlike our standard curriculum classes, these electives are closely tied to the passions, expertise, and availability of specific instructors. That means offerings will rotate regularly, and some courses may not return for quite some time.

First Up: Term 4 Electives

Spontaneous Songs with Laura Josephine

Learn the fundamentals of dropping into songs during your scenes — no singing experience or musical knowledge required.

Improvised musicals are one of the most joyful and impressive forms of live comedy, and this course is designed to make spontaneous singing feel approachable, playable, and fun for any improviser.

Position Play & The Four Scene Types with Adam Kangas

Transform scenework from “hoping something funny happens” into a process you can actively recognise, navigate, and enjoy.

Inspired by the teachings of Miles Stroth, this course explores Position Play and the Four Scene Types — a powerful framework for understanding why scenes work, how they shift, and how improvisers can make stronger choices with greater confidence.

Future Electives

We hope to continue expanding the Development Electives catalogue with future offerings such as Clowning for Improvisers, Acting for Improvisers, and more.

Similar to Rep City classes, Development Electives instructors are also able to recommend students for consideration by our Education Team for future Performance Track opportunities where appropriate.

And finally: interested in doubling up on classes this term?

We’ve now officially automated our Double Dipper Discount. If you’ve already made a fresh payment for an 8-week course in a given term, our system will automatically offer you 30% off additional eligible courses during that same term.
